A NEW CONVENANT - AUSCHWITZ VISITED

Seventy years ago, on June 14th 1940, the first transport of Polish political prisoners arrived at Auschwitz. So began the extermination that would eventually kill more people than the entire US and British losses of World War II. Not only vast numbers of Jewish people perished here, but gypsies, homosexuals, the disabled, Poles and Protestant and Catholic clergy. Auschwitz thus became recognized around the world as the symbol of the death camps of the Nazi regime.
