In line with our healing mission to clear and work on sites where the world's worst atrocities have occurred, we are supporting a trip to Cambodia and Vietnam from 18 November to 4 December 2011.
These two south-eastern Asian countries are renowned for their beauty, cultural richness and friendliness of their people. Yet, in the 20th century, it was the experiences of war and genocide that made these two nations known throughout the world. Going back much further, the histories of both are turbulent and only in the last 25 years in Vietnam and even more recently in Cambodia have reforms enabled a more stable and hopeful future to begin to unfold. The predominantly Buddhist spirituality of their peoples may have been key in releasing at least some of the trauma of the past, but the still fragile state of recovery and the remaining restrictions and abuses of human rights attests to the fear-based patterns and pain that still remains.
This two-week programme will visit the infamous Killing Fields of Cambodia where millions were massacred by the Pol Pot regime then in power and will incorporate a trip to the stunning temples of Angkor Wat, one of the ancient splendours of the world. Led by Dr. Jude Currivan and organised by Justina Pettifer from Co-Creative Travel. More details to follow and price on application.
